About Uniqueness

September 4, 2022

There is a school. On the outside wall of the school, there is a slogan on a metal plate. Obviously, it’s the official slogan of the school.

The slogan is: “Each one is unique.”

That’s a quite nice slogan.
However, something is missing. The slogan should have a few more words. My suggestion:

** Each one is unique with each other. **

Another option:

** Each one is unique, in interaction with each other. **

I have a simple argumentation:

When you are alone, you are not unique in any way.
When you are communicating with someone, you’ll become instantly a unique person.
At the same time, the person you are communicating with, will become instantly a unique person.

Uniqueness is realized and expressed only in relation to other person or persons.
In the same way, similarity is realized and expressed only in relation to other person or persons.

We are unique and we are similar to each other only, when we are interacting with each other.
Difference and similarity are born, altered, modulated and perceived in interaction between (individual) people.

When we are alone, the feeling of difference from other people will increase.
When we are alone, the feeling of similarity with other people will decrease.

The feeling of difference and isolation is negative.
The feeling of uniqueness and acceptance with each other is positive.

When we are in interaction with other people, we will search for the similarities with other people.
At the same time, we will accept and become interested in differences with other people.

Uniqueness is a positive difference, in interaction with each other.

However, interaction might be difficult. Difficulties in interaction can create barriers for accepting differences. But that’s another story.
