Some time ago I became interested in etymology of two words:
Amateur / Professional
The original meaning of “amateur” is exciting:
An amateur is an individual, who loves to do something.
Instead, a professional is an individual, who professes (declares) to be an expert in doing something. That’s why a professional can ask for money for doing something.
Obviously you must be a professional for being a firefighter or doing a surgery.
Anyway, as an artist, would you rather be a lover or a professor?
I’d rather be a lover.
