I’m an improvising guitarist. I’m using guitar as a healing instrument for expressing emotions and creating connections. I’m a composer too, but usually I make compositions only with words and images. Music, words, images and characters together may be used for building up a film. A film is a result of cinematic interaction. Basically I’m interacting in Finland and natively using Finnish language.

Images and music are independent. Images don’t need music, music doesn’t need images.
Anyway, images and music may live together. How to make them to live together? How to make a work of art, that handles images and music equally?In order to achieve that situation, these art forms must give something to each other. However, that’s an optimistic view. Another option is that there will be a fight.
The power of both of these art forms has been fascinating for me. I want to make images, I want to make music. Not necessarily in that order. For a long time I thought, that I must choose one and make a decision, that one is more important than the other. To concentrate only on one thing. That kind of dedication and attitude make many things a lot easier for you in society, in life.
However, I’ve realized, that I must be truthful to myself. I’ve realized, that choosing only images or only music is impossible for me.
After concentrating a while only on images, I desperately want to grab the guitar and play – and vice versa.
Today I’m interested in combining these two strong art forms. I’ve started making some short films, collaborating with a few colleagues and friends. Using a short film form, I try to combine images and music in a way, that maintains their independence and power. At the same time, I try to build an evolving interaction between these art forms.
Maybe they will live happily together or maybe they will fight against each other for the space they need. At least there will be dialogue between them. Dialogue between people, as well as monologue for people, need words. Trying to add some words in there too.
Compositions with words is a concept for creating musical variations of themes using words instead of notes. Rhythm and melodies can be transferred to words. However, the resulting text is not necessarily poetry. It could be some kind of music, that has a form as words.
I’m looking forward to see, what emerges from these ideas. However, there are some results already for you!
For combining images, music and words I started a project called Union. Different aspects and forms of art will have an interplay. This concept opens up the creativity. The first short film of Union project was released in June 2021. Mennyt (Bygone) is a short film about stillness and movement, things that pass. The second short film of the project is Kaipuu (Longing), released in May 2022. More information about these short films right here on this site, on Union section.

The latest idea for realizing expression and interaction as music is Sisu Rock. It’s genre of music and mindset for creative expression. It’s based on Intersubjective Improvisation, Willpower Chords, Theory for Dignity of Notes and Philosophy of Creative Spirit. Check out more on section Sisu Rock.
